Some green, some red, some ripe, some not
is it really a fruit, I think not
reminders of the garden I keep dreaming
the homestead we are working
little by little, a new plot added here
a larger compost bin made there
every growing season offers new possibilities
springtime is on my mind
What thoughts or images come to you?
Bon appetite!

Being in northern Minnesota, this heightens the winter “cabin fever”…still too early to start the seeds, even indoors! Perhaps in 6 weeks time! Spring can’t come soon enough!

You are so right! Thoughts of spring are keep me warm now, and planning for the first seedlings is coming soon!

Jennifer,
Oh now that sounds like a great use of some ripe tomatoes!

I’m thinking about taking in a big whiff of tomato plant scent. The other day one of my cats knocked a potted plant off the window sill, and while I initially admonished her I then thanked her because as I swept up the dirt the smell made me think of gardening. It was a pleasant moment as I too won’t be seeding anything for what seems way too long from now.

Gloria,
Oh me too, just love the special aroma that tomato plants have especially in the full afternoon sun, and when you start picking them off the vine and the fresh earthy smells remind you of where food really comes from, Mother Earth. We are fortunate to have experienced getting our hands dirty, gardening is a wonderful way to connect back to the land.

Makes me dream and hope of my garden doing better this year. Nothing beats fresh tomatoes. Hoping to build a raised bed in a sunnier part of the yard for them.

Hi Carolyn,
Indeed, I hope to add a few more plots next to the two 4’x10’ sections that I added last year, trying to double the size of the garden every year. I am counting the days!

Hi Brooke,
Thank you so much for commenting on my post today!
The tomato garden does look huge from this camera angle.

All the best,

Wow! I wonder how these tomatoes smell! Must be so tempting!

I can say my pitiful tomatoes never look that strong, or fruitful… I’m sure the raised beds help, so does this house for protection…. looks to be some peppers in the mix too…..

This picture takes me back to every summer as a child. We would head to the farms and pick bushels upon bushels of tomatoes to can for my mother’s famous spaghetti sauce.

I personally can’t wait to get started on my vegetable garden! I’m looking forward to my tomatoes, zucchini, peppers – then the grapevine that grows across my entire deck … oh I can’t wait … thanks for reminding me of summer! 🙂

Lovely photo for this time of the year. It’s a nice reminder that spring is on the way . . . hopefully sooner rather than later.
Thanks,
Joanne
