For nearly seventy years, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was famous for its dining car cuisine and flawless service. The carrier's diner are fondly recalled by a generation of travelers for their Chesapeake Bay seafood specialties, the ever-popular "Help Yourself" Salad Bowl, and freshly baked pies. Equally famous aboard its dining cars was the railroad's Blue China which depicted various scenes along the B&O right-of-way. The cars were decorated with Hepplewhite chairs, Georgian leaded windows, and Sheraton sideboards. Many of the B&O's trains featured barber, bath and valet services, en-route movies, telephone service, and the first and only railroad-operated dome cars in the East. B&O passenger and dining car service ended with the coming of Amtrak in 1971.

Portions of this booklet were first published about 1950 by B&O's Dining Car Department. This revised 1990 edition has been printed as a result of widespread interest in B&O Dining Car Operations, and is dedicated to all those who were fortunate enough to know that "The B&O Was The Way To Go." 1
